Texas House SealFrom the desk of
STATE REPRESENTATIVE
FRED BROWN

Dear Friend,

As your State Representative, I’ve been working hard to promote the conservative beliefs of our community over in the State Capitol – holding government accountable for spending, combating waste, working against proposed tax increases, and fighting for policies that protect and support the traditional values that make Texas great.

In the Texas House, I’ve worked for you, and the betterment of our state, by fighting for common-sense fiscal, tax and regulatory policies that promote economic growth and opportunity. As a five term, Senior Member of the budget-writing House Appropriations Committee, I’ve been determined to protect your pocketbook – as well as the best interests of our area’s #1 employer, Texas A&M University.

Without question, the liberal Democrats running Washington, D.C. these days are trying to take us in the wrong direction on almost every issue. In sharp contrast, here in Texas your Republican leaders are working hard to keep us on the right track. Texas is the fastest-growing state in the United States, creating 70% of all new jobs (in those states adding jobs in 2008). When the Brookings Institution and Forbes Magazine studied America’s cities and rated them for how well they create new jobs, all five of the top job-creating cities were in Texas. While Texas was the last state to be hit hard by the current downturn, I recognize these are tough times for some of our friends and neighbors. Thankfully, our state’s holding-up better than any other and is now leading our country out of recession.

What’s the secret to our success? Conservative Republican solutions at the State Capitol. And, I’m proud to be part of this successful conservative team.

In Texas, we have no state income tax and no tax on capital gains. We’ve lead the nation in passing historic reforms to stop the lawsuit abuse that increases insurance costs. And, we’ve streamlined the regulatory process to help employers create more jobs. We have an emphasis on creating opportunity — and promoting individual responsibility and free market solutions — rather than promoting the liberal idea that government solves all problems.

While California has lost nearly 400,000 manufacturing jobs, the Lone Star State has created jobs and leads the nation in exporting manufactured goods – and, we now have more Fortune 500 headquarters than any other state.

It’s no mystery. Conservative Texas leadership works. We have a balanced state budget and fiscally responsible policies in place. Just this last legislative session, I voted to cut taxes for 40,000 small businesses and to keep billions of dollars in our state’s emergency Rainy Day Fund. And, working together, Republicans in the Texas House promoted measures that will provide greater protection for property owners by adding more transparency and fairness to the appraisal process.

As Texas leads the nation out of this undeniably tough time, it is important to keep the positive momentum going in our state.

I hope I can count on your active support this election year so that I can go back to Austin and continue working for you, for our community, for our university and for our great state.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Fred Brown
